Natural stone countertops have a variety of edge designs you can choose from. Here are a few of the most common ones seen in kitchens and bathrooms.

Square – A square edge is the most angled edge available, but the corners will still be slightly rounded to preserve the stone against chipping and also protect your family from being injured by an actually sharp edge. The lines of this are cleanest and work for contemporary kitchen designs.

Bevel – A bevel edge is like a square edge with a 45° angle cut flattening the top edge corner slightly. This adds a nice contrasting shine to your countertop around the edges.

Bullnose – A bullnose edge is completely rounded, almost like a semi-circle. This is comfortable and blends in with your kitchen design. However, spills can run down the cabinets more easily.

Demi-Bullnose – This is a bullnose edge with the bottom flattened to eliminate the problem of spills that regular bullnose edges have.

Fancy – Dupont, French Cove and Ogee edges are the most embellished edges and go with very traditional and elegant kitchen designs. If you want your countertop to be the centerpiece of your kitchen, choose one of these.
